Today, I was trying to find a site that shows real-time blog traffic. Noticing that many of the blogs I follow were all writing today (many with several posts) and that I felt in a particularly fanciful writing mood, I thought maybe the muses were out in “Blogdom”. Not finding what I was looking for, I stumbled across Dean’s World where I read this interesting post on Blog Traffic. From there I came across Kate’s very interesting article on Blogging…Philosophy that I enjoyed reading. I couldn’t quite figure out what philosophy I have and I guess I’ll let someone else classify me, but all the thought that went into this article was intriguing. That then led me to the “Webblog Ethics” link and the insightful and humorous post by Simon who decided to add his wisdom on “The Blog”.
This mind boggling depth of ideas filled my head causing confusion and wonder that blogging can be so deep and complex. I had known that blogs have somewhat of a cult following as evidenced in my What’s up with blogging? post on my forum. Now I am one of them and yet I began this blog with simplistic idea that is was basically an online journal (and I don’t mean in the newspaper sense) and I would use it as that. I decided I needed some clarity, so I went to good ol’ dictionary.com where I found that indeed a blog is “an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page; also called Weblog”1. That said, I do enjoy reading these posts and never intended to be offensive or immoral on my blog, so I guess I’m safe. As far as “traffic” is concerned, I don’t intend to drive it here, but wouldn’t mind being discovered. If no one finds me, I’ll still keep writing my thought for the same reason as I wrote stories and poems: to express myself and to remember.
[At the end of this post, I don’t know what I’m even saying, but I guess I’ll publish it since I spent so much time writing it and it shows how I spent much of my day.]
